Adelaide Park Lands Member Action Group Meeting

The Adelaide Park Lands are at further risk! The recent State Government’s MotoGP track announcement included a track that will cost at least $96 million dollars, another 377 trees, more days of traffic congestion, with increased noise and exhaust pollution. 

This announcement was made just one week after thousands of people rallied against further destruction of the Park Lands. 

Malinauskas continually and deliberately fails to recognise that the Park Lands have a purpose: they are the green belt created to provide fresh air, prevent urban overcrowding, define city limits, and offer recreational space for all residents. Instead our Premier wants to pour concrete on them, remove majestic trees - the homes of many native animals, and block off access to green spaces for residents across even more days a year - unless they pay up to get behind the gates. 

Our Adelaide Park Lands are so significant they have national heritage listing and are what continues to make Adelaide one of the most livable cities in the world. Our Greens MLCs Robert Simms and Melanie Selwood have rightly questioned how meaningful community consultation can be when construction is already scheduled to begin in December. As Robert said, this project will “change the character of the parklands forever”. 

I know - it feels a bit hopeless, but the fight to protect our Park Lands is far from over. Join us to turn that feeling back into hope. 

The next Adelaide Park Lands Member Action Group meeting will include a discussion about what the Greens plan is to put serious pressure on Labor to stop their continued destruction of the Park Lands through the coming Local Government elections.

Bring a plate of food to share, a picnic rug or chair, and your enthusiasm for protecting South Australia's green spaces.
