A webinar presented by the Greens Political Education Trust and Greens for Palestine

Since October 2023, the genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza and Israeli settler attacks in the West Bank and Jerusalem have drawn global attention and condemnation from human rights defenders worldwide. As violence and displacement continue in Gaza and the West Bank, many are asking how these events came to pass and what historical and political forces underpin the conflict.

Join us for an evening exploring the history of Palestinian resistance and the nature of the Israeli state from the Nakba of 1948 to the present day.

Facilitated by Senator David Shoebridge, the discussion will feature two speakers with recognised expertise:

Dr Barbara Bloch – activist and scholar whose research examines the emergence of Zionism in the Australian Jewish diaspora. Barbara will speak about Zionism’s early pre-state years, arguing that early Zionists established principles and practices in their treatment of the Palestinian people, that has continued until the present day.

Dr Lana Tatour –is a Senior Lecturer in Global Development at the University of New South Wales. She is the co-editor of Race and the Question of Palestine (Stanford University Press 2025). Lana will speak on Zionist settler colonisation and racism in Palestine.

The event will conclude with a Q&A.
