The Greens are calling a goal-setting meeting to outline our plan to unf#*ck student housing—and to figure-out together how you can help us make it happen.

As young people, we know housing in Canberra is f#*ked.

For years, the political establishment has been in the pocket of big corporations and developers. As a result, our hopes as young people of home ownership, our rights as renters and our belief in the possibility of change haves disappeared.

Right now, we're in a full-blown housing crisis—but here’s the kicker: our universities are at the heart of it. Yes, you heard that right—while we talk about suburban housing shortages and sky-high rents, the Australian National University quietly assumes the title of the biggest private landlord in town.

Add the University of Canberra into the mix, and together our universities control up to 9,000 homes and rooms—each often costing students $200 a week or more.

That’s over $10 million in profit every single year from young people just trying to get a start in the world with a safe roof over their heads—it's the bare minimum.

But what makes this even worse is that these universities operate in a total Wild West. No limits on rent hikes. No protection from eviction. No rules letting students leave early. And if you step out of line, they can even freeze your education.

It’s backwards. It’s unjust. And it stops now.

The Greens are calling a goal-setting meeting to outline our plan to unf#*ck this system—and to figure-out together how you can help us make it happen.

Join us for a snap workshop to have a say on your experience of the housing crisis and to have a direct impact on what we focus on and how we campaign for change.
